Today is the day that I share the final reveal of our Modern Farmhouse Mudroom Overhaul!
It all started when we moved into this home and started revamping our entire main floor open concept including the front foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, mudroom, stairs, and powder room!
Whew! We’ve already shared a LOT of this renovation, so if you missed any posts- here is where you can catch up–

There’s so much more to read too! But let’s get back on track with the MUDROOM Final Reveal! Last post I shared our mood board and inspiration for this space including our needs.
I think it’s important to recap a bit of that post before we see the FINAL REVEAL!
Our Modern Farmhouse Mudroom Inspiration:
Our concept for our home is Modern Farmhouse with a touch of coastal colors. We’ve been working on putting this cohesive look into each space we renovate. The goal is to achieve a light and bright space that is welcoming and cozy!
Here is our concept board for the mudroom–>
In our mudroom, we wanted:
- Bench with lots of hooks for coats & backpacks
- Drop zone for keys and mail
- Family command center for our weekly organizational needs
- Shoe storage
- Large chalkboard and place to display all the artwork the kiddos bring home from school (instead of the fridge!)
- Modern Farmhouse style- white, black, grey with coastal influences here or there.
OK, ready to see if we achieved our goals?
Modern Farmhouse Mudroom- The Final Reveal!
Welcome to our Mudroom! It is located directly off of our Modern Farmhouse kitchen. It is a sunken mudroom with garage access and a powder room attached too!
The picture below gives you a good grasp of the flow of the garage into the mudroom and into the kitchen. The white door is our access to the garage, and the light blue door is our kitchen pantry. Super easy to bring in the groceries and put them away!
One of the things I love the most is that when anyone walks into the mudroom, they are faced with this sign I picked up with family rules. Not only are the colors perfect for our home, but the rules are similar to our values and morals too.
My favorites for our kiddos include– Be Grateful, Practice Patience, Use Kind Words, and Love Each Other!
Once you walk down the steps into the mudroom, you would notice that beside the garage door, we have our family command center/ drop zone. This is the area where we drop our keys, write our monthly calendar out as well as our to-do’s or grocery list!
This HEMNES shoe cabinet is from IKEA and provides some extra storage for footwear. Can you believe that it actually holds almost 20 pairs of shoes!?! Plus, it has a convenient drawer to hold our keys, sunglasses, and other small items.
At the end of our mudroom is our powder room. We decided to incorporate our coastal vibes in this room and painted it our I See Blue colour by Beautitone @ Home Hardware!
I love having a powder room in the mudroom. That way any last-minute bathroom breaks before getting into the car or bathroom break when playing outside are right here. No need for kids to constantly trudge dirt through the house for access to a bathroom!
Ok, I see you peeking at our mudroom built-in bench, so let’s take a better look at it!
DIY Mudroom Bench:
We originally had a double closet in this space, but it was awkward to open the doors and access anything inside. It took up too much space and we knew that a Mudroom Built-in Bench would be a much better solution for our family!
Plus, our mudroom has 10 1/2 ft of ceiling height- so we tried to be as efficient as possible with our space! We added upper cabinets from IKEA to maximize our storage!
We use this storage to switch out our seasonal needs- For example, we put our winter hats and mitts up here in the summer, backpacks too!
Another part of the DIY Mudroom Built-In to point out is our open shelving above our hooks. There are 4 compartments- one for each of the kids and one for us parents to share. Any personalized items like hats, mitts, sunglasses, etc can be stored in these baskets for easy access.
In addition, we made sure to have room for 5 hooks in this space- 1 for each member in our family. We chose a 3 pronged hook that matches the hardware on our cabinets above.
In order to achieve more of the Modern Farmhouse style, shiplap was a MUST! We have it in different areas of our house already, so installing shiplap wasn’t anything new to use. We chose to use a 5.5″ wide plank from Metrie and picked it up at our local hardware store.
It’s super easy to install and looks amazing!
One of the coolest features of our mudroom is our actual bench! My hubby found it in the back of a workshop just collecting dust. It is an older workbench that fits perfectly in this space.
I love how it is imperfect and has random holes in it! 🙂
The final view of our Modern Farmhouse Mudroom Overhaul Reveal shows the opposite view.
Did you notice the space under the bench for added shoe storage? I added these buckets for the kiddos to toss their shoes into so it doesn’t look overly messy!
And that’s it for the Modern Farmhouse Mudroom tour final reveal!
Modern Farmhouse Mudroom- Before/ After:
Remember what the room used to look like? Check out the transformation!
Well, the mudroom isn’t the largest of spaces, so it really was all about how efficient we could be with our space.
I think we utilized this space extremely well and checked off most of the boxes. How did we do on our checklist?
1- Bench with lots of hooks for coats and backpacks- CHECK
2- Drop Zone for keys and mail- CHECK
3-Family Command Center for our weekly organizational needs- CHECK
4-Shoe Storage- CHECK
5-Modern Farmhouse Style with Coastal Colours- CHECK
The only thing that I would like to add in the future is an area to display the kids’ artwork rather than on my fridge.
I’m thinking the wall leading into the mudroom is the ideal space for this and a future project too 🙂
All in all, I’m super happy with our end results and see our family using this space daily! Now just to keep it this clean, right!?!
Until next time~
