Although putting together a complete kitchen remodel takes longer than the 6 weeks in the One Room Challenge, it really was a great push to complete the kitchen and get it done.  Well…almost…there are still a few paint-touch-ups to complete and baseboards to nail in.  This won’t take very long though, that’s the good news!

If you haven’t been keeping up-to-date with our Modern Farmhouse Kitchen renovation, here’s what you have missed.

1.Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Reno– Week 1
2.Kitchen Demo & Living in a Mess!– Week 2
3.All Things Shiny – Week 3
4.The Fancy New Vent Hood – Week 4
5.Kitchen Install Updates & Accessorizing!– Week 5

So…curious as to what our final Modern Farmhouse Kitchen looks like? Here we go!

Drum roll please….

Recap- the Before Kitchen

Modern Farmhouse Kitchen MoodboardLet’s take a walk down memory lane and remember what the kitchen looked like prior to moving into this house.  Stained Maple shaker cabinets, pink laminate counter-tops, dark back-splash, corner pantry, and blue/purple tile.

Out of all of it, the part that didn’t work for me the most was the small & cramped island.  We are a family of 5 and I love having a large island for the entire family to sit around, do homework while I’m cooking, or just enjoying each other’s company.

We were going for a Modern Farmhouse Kitchen with Coastal Vibes– Here was our Inspirational Mood Board–>

Tell me in the comments if you think we nailed it!!!

the kitchen reveal– it’s done!!!

Modern Farmhouse Before & After Shot

What a difference right!?!  Now mind you, the quality of the upper picture is not the greatest.  At this point in time, I had no intention of entering in the One Room Challenge and didn’t even think of taking before shots of the kitchen- so that one is from the previous owner.

Here are some pictures of different angles of our finished Modern Farmhouse Kitchen.  The kitchen has been completed, cleaned, and ready for photos to be taken!

Elements of a Great Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Design:

Okay, are you loving our new kitchen as much as I am?  Well, I thought it might be a good idea to point out some elements of a great modern farmhouse kitchen design that we chose to implement into our home!

Modern Farmhouse Elements

1- Garbage Cabinet– I love that we added this garbage/ recycling cabinet into our island.  It prevents lots of recycling from piling up on our counters when we are too lazy to bring it out to the garage!!!

2- Detailed Moldings– We added some custom moldings on the side of the fridge to add some visual interest when looking at the kitchen.  As well, our crown moldings were “beefed” up and look amazing!

3- Glass Pendant Lighting– I knew that I wanted these exact lights over my island.  They are beautiful and look stunning in our kitchen.  They are the Everly Pendants from Kichler.

4- Industrial Faucets– Our faucets are from VIGO and have a complete industrial vibe to them.  Both of them have a pull-down feature too!  They pair nicely with our commercial grade undermount sinks from Cantrio Koncepts.

5- Intricate Island– Here you can see the custom moldings under the island, on the legs of the island and around the baseboards as well!  Don’t they just dress it up!

Our eye candy:

I know that I already wrote an entire post all about our fancy new vent hood and the story behind the whole thing.  If you haven’t read it…catch it here!  It’s a good read 🙂

This zinc metal vent hood is our eye candy.  When you turn into the kitchen, it is the first thing that pops out at you and catches your attention.  It is right in the middle of our back wall and we choose this dark grey zinc to contrast all of the white in our kitchen!

I just love it so much!  You?

Adding the finishing touches:

OK, so now it was time to add our finishing touches to the kitchen to complete the look!  Here’s what it turned out like.  I hope I achieved the Modern Farmhouse style kitchen with some Coastal Influences.

What do you think?

Our finishing touches included:

1- Industrial Bar-stools– We needed 5 bar-stools for our family and choose to go with the color gun metal to match our vent hood and cabinet hardware.  We opted for a wood seat so that in the winter, our butts wouldn’t get cold from the metal- smart thinking right!

2- Runner– We chose a grey & white runner called Maples that runs the length of our cabinets on the back wall.  Again, to keep our feet warm during the colder months and add some texture to the kitchen.

3- Coastal Decor– We added pops of the coastal colors into our kitchen decor in certain areas to bring some much needed color to our design.  We chose these colors because they are comforting & soft to look at.  They remind me of being on a beach in the Caribbean and relax me.  We added coastal pops of color in the pantry door, canisters on the counter, and decorative vases & candles on the island.

Final Thoughts:

Well…that was a great 6 weeks of completing a major renovation in the house, posting on the blog, learning Instagram (yes…just signed up for this challenge), and showing my style in our Modern Farmhouse Kitchen.

Thank you to the One Room Challenge for your support throughout this 6 weeks!

And you know what?!?  I absolutely loved it!

Yes…I love thinking about how to make spaces efficient, putting together mood boards & inspiration for the space, picking out and shopping for the elements required for a renovation (tile, flooring, faucets, paint colors, decor, etc), and actually getting my hands involved to make the space a reality!

Thank you for watching our kitchen transformation throughout the One Room Challenge. Check out how the other featured designers & guest participant spaces ended up too!

What to Look Forward to on Inspired to Revamp:
