Hi all!

I just wanted to reach out during these unprecedented times we are all experiencing and stay hi…how are you?!? I hope you all are staying inspired, active, healthy and above all safe while you are in quarantine mode!

10 Tips for Staying Positive in Quarantine

If you are anything like me, you are trying to balance a chaotic schedule of homeschooling, working from home, maintaining a home and staying sane! Maybe your combination looks a little different, but no matter what, we are all experiencing odd times.

I am a high school teacher and have been doing crisis online teaching for the past 5 weeks so far. Every day I am working with my 80 some students, trying to help them continue in their learning, deal with the global pandemic and work through their emotions regarding all of it- especially my Grade 12’s who have lost their Prom and Grad events!

I haven’t left the house for almost 7 weeks–except to be in my gardens, go for a drive, or go for a walk, bike or rollerblading with my family. My husband is the errand person and the only one who goes in and out of any store.  Which really only happens about once a week- we’ve really limited where we go and make sure it’s ONLY for essentials!  I’m okay with it all though, for the most part, as I’m quite an introvert.  But I know that my kids are craving some social interaction with their friends!

I’m really thankful to everyone who is out fighting against the virus or working as an essential worker.  I’m trying to do my part by staying home and lowering the curve.

Quarantine- Thank You Front Line

We are all affected!

No matter what, everyone has a different story right now and it’s times like these that compassion and kindness are key to communicating, understanding, and empathizing with people.

  • Some people are dealing with anxiety or with financial difficulties.
  • Others have loved ones infected, or are alone in isolation.
  • Some are on the front lines, others are binge-watching Netflix, and are bored.
  • Some are questioning their religious beliefs, while parents are trying to home-school their children.
  • Others are preparing for the worst or are making sure their kids are happy and not worried that this virus will get to them.
And these are just some stories…what is yours?

At home,  we have put pretty much everything on hold in terms of projects or DIYs around the house- well, most places are closed anyhow.

Putting projects on hold is difficult for me! I have such a long list of to-do’s around our house and future reno’s to put on the blog. At the beginning of all of this, I would sit and stare at each room, writing my list of to-do’s.  There are some things that we can tackle- like paint touch-ups , but it’s taken me a while to realize that now is not the time to do big overhauls.  It made me quite sad not to participate in the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge!  But it was the right decision- another will happen in the Fall, and I will gladly take on a room then.

Instead, we have focused on providing a positive environment for our children and keeping our household happy & healthy!

So today, I wanted to share with you how we are staying inspired & positive in quarantine mode.  Therefore, I have put together 10 tips for staying inspired during this time with your family.

Enjoy 🙂

20 Tips for staying sane at home during quarantine | Honeycombers

Top 10 Tips for Staying Positive during Quarantine Life:

1: Routine– Having a daily schedule in place provides many benefits including structure, predictability, less anxiety, and consistency.

2:  Keep busy– Spend your day being busy instead of binge-watching television.  Pull out your board games, puzzles, crafting, or art, and have some fun!  Challenge yourself to learn new activities during this downtime too 🙂

3:  Stay up-to-date with news, but do not dwell on it– It is important to know the facts and what is going on in the world or even in your community.  However, it is unhealthy to dwell on the negatives you see on the news.

4:  Stay positive– Especially if you have kids!  Trying to stay positive and uplifted during these times can be quite difficult and I’m sure that some days aren’t great.  Try to find something that puts a smile on your face- when I’m having a difficult day, I crank the dance tunes and just feel the music.  It’s an instant spark of joy!

5:  Stay active– Now that the warmer weather is around, try to get outside and stay active by going for walks, nature hikes, rollerblading, biking, or even playing some sports like basketball on your driveway.  Even on rainy days, there are so many activities you can do to stay active.  Try downloading a fitness app, doing some Just Dance videos, or trying a 30-day push-up challenge 🙂

6:  Spring Clean– This pause in life is the perfect extra time to give your home a good scrubbing on both the inside and outside!  Plus, you’ll keep the germs away!

7:  Organize– Take some time to organize your paperwork, closets, drawers and more.  It’s a nice feeling to cleanse out these areas that often get cluttered and mixed up!  Check out my post about how we KonMari’ed our home!

8:  Stay connected with friends and family–So we can’t see each other…but there are so many other ways that we can connect thanks to technology such as call, video, a challenge to online games, zoom, and more…

9:  Relax– Now is the perfect time to get in a good headspace- relax and paint or journal or blog or just watch movies!  No matter how you relax, take the time to press your life’s pause button during this time.

10:  Love one another– Yes, I’m saving the best for last!  Take time to just BE with your family, give extra hugs & kisses, talk, and build strong relationships.  I’m learning SO much about my kids right now just because we are with each other all day, every day, and not super busy!  It’s wonderful!
