The Final Reveal Playroom
If you haven’t been keeping up-to-date with our Kids Playroom renovation, here’s what you have missed.

So…curious as to what our final Kids Playroom looks like? Here we go!

Drum roll please….

Recap- the Before Playroom

Let’s take a walk down memory lane and remember what the playroom looked like prior to this renovation challenge.  Blue striped walls, toys everywhere, unorganized with superhero decals placed all over the walls!

Playroom Zones- Final Reveal

Our playroom ended up being divided into 3 different zones based on the needs and wants of our children.  It is now full of character, organization, and storage!

Let’s see how long the kiddos can keep it clean thought…right?!?

1- Lego Zone-

There were a few things that we were trying to achieve in this space.  They included:

  • Storage- We needed lots of storage to keep our Lego collection organized.  I talked about this IKEA Hack built-in we created in a previous post.
  • Organization- We created a lot of organization by adding labels to the buckets, black magazine holders to hold the Lego Booklets, and mini-figure display units to show off our Lego Guys.
  • Building- We re-finished an existing table that we had hanging around and added it into this space along with some chairs.  This will provide our kiddos space to build without having to dump everything on the floor…like before!

2- Pretend Zone–

  • The playhouse turned out super cute!  We took our existing closet and closed it in to make our daughter her very own playhouse.
  • Inside, you will find her kitchen, storage for toys, a chalkboard, and comfy chair.  She just loves it!

3– Adventure Zone–

  • What do you get when you put together a rock wall, monkey bars, a climbing rope, a loft hangout, and some basketball?  The Adventure Zone of course!
  • Comes complete with some secret toy storage too- all to hide the messes obviously.

Final Thoughts:

Final Reveal Picture

Well…that was a great 6 weeks of completing a fun project for our kids.  It was definitely worth it…just seeing the looks on their faces when putting together each zone was enough reward 🙂

And to think that I almost didn’t sign up….

Thank you to the One Room Challenge and Better Homes & Gardens for your support throughout these past 6 weeks!

And you know what?!? I absolutely loved it!  Can’t wait until the next One Room Challenge in Spring- Better start planning now!

Yes…I love thinking about how to make spaces efficient, putting together mood boards & inspiration for the space, picking out and shopping for the elements required for a renovation and actually getting my hands involved to make the space a reality!

Thank you for watching our kids playroom transformation throughout the One Room Challenge. Check out how the other featured designers & guest participant spaces ended up too!

Thanks Angela! This was such a fun project and now the kids love being in this space! 🙂

  6. Looks amazing. What type of pipe did you use for the monkey bars?

  7. Author

Thanks Nick! We used industrial pipe fittings and spray painted them black for the monkey bars. Looking to build some for your home too?!

  8. You guys absolutely nailed every aspect of this!! As a mama of 2 LEGO loving boys and a little girl this is my dream play space! Amazing job!

  9. Author

Thanks Jessica- there was a lot of thought that went into the needs for this Lego Zone! Our boys and little girl are enjoying the space 🙂

  10. I love this. I love the monkey bars, very clever. There must be a way you HAVE to brace those. How? I wish you had videos going through this process. We installed a swing in our basement, my children LOVE it. But, of course, it broke, lol. We just have to do it right. Working on it.

Hi Paula! I hope that I can help out- I actually recently posted a step by step tutorial on how we created our DIY indoor climbing rock wall and monkey bars. Check out the link here– https://inspiredtorevamp.com/diy-indoor-rock-climbing-wall/. The biggest pointer I can give you is that our monkey bars are actually screwed into 2 pieces of 2 x 4 that spans our ceiling space. We screwed in these planks to the ceiling joists and this is what supports our monkey bars-not the monkey bars themselves. Good luck with your swing 🙂

  12. I absolutely LOVE how you have organized the LEGO play space! Where did you get the LEGO mini figure display shelves?!

  13. Author

Hi Annie- Thanks for joining our Inspired Community! My husband actually made the display shelves out of 2 x 1’s and added a black Lego Tape on top of the shelves for the mini-figures to stand on. The kids love displaying their collections of mini-figures this way! Hope this helps 🙂

  14. You did a great work !I love the playroom. I’m inspired..

  15. Author

Thanks so much Glory- thanks for checking out our playroom 🙂

  16. Hey I love this I have one son and two foster sons and was looking for ideas. I’m curious did you guys creat the loft space yourself or is it something bought or previously there?

  17. Author

Hi Taylor- thanks so much! We have a small alcove in this room that worked perfectly for a loft space. We did build it ourselves and customized it for this area’s dimensions. It fits all 3 of our kiddos up there too 🙂

  18. Hi Annie – Just curious about your climbing wall. It does not look as though each rock piece was drilled into a stud…is that correct? Since most studs are 16 inches apart but your rock pieces look a lot closer together than that. How secure are they with just attaching to the shiplat?

  19. Author

Hi Bethany- You are correct. Most of our rock pieces are drilled into a stud. But ALL of our plywood shiplap planks are drilled into the studs and making it secure for the rock wall pieces to be placed anywhere on the mountains. I hope this help answer your question.

  20. Do you happen to know how much each metal monkey bar cost to make out of industrial pipe fittings? I’m trying to make an indoor gym for my little ones and wondering if I should buy them premade on amazon or fabricate them myself. Thank you for the inspiration!

  21. Author

Hi Noelle- thanks for stopping by the blog! Each of those galvanized pipe monkey bars costs roughly $30 CDN to make. I will tell you one thing, these definitely give an industrial look to your monkey bars over the premade ones on amazon. That’s what I was looking for from a design perspective anyhow. Good luck with your indoor gym 🙂

  22. Hi! What carpet do you have in this space?

  23. Author

Hi Kylie! Thanks for stopping by! Our carpet was already in this room prior to moving into this home. So I would not be able to tell you the exact brand & color- so sorry. However, I can tell you that it is an off-white patterned carpet with small squares. It vacuums really well and has held up to 4 years of our kids playing hard in this playroom! Thanks 🙂
