It’s almost summer and the perfect time to put together your outdoor spaces! Here are some key tips to create the ultimate backyard oasis.

The weather is warming up outside and I find myself longing to hang out in a cozy spot outdoors taking in the sun & fresh air. We are just putting the final touches on our home addition and that includes setting up an inviting backyard oasis on our new deck for friends & family to hang out this summer.

Our goal has always been to create the ultimate resort backyard that is welcoming and provides a summer stay-cation destination that we love and don’t want to leave. Lots of time has been put into the design of our backyard, especially around our pool. The summer is almost here, and I can’t wait for our outdoor spaces to be ready!

In the meantime, I wanted to share some backyard inspiration and tips to keep in mind when creating your ultimate backyard oasis.

1- Evaluate your Space & Needs

The first thing to do is to consider the needs of your backyard spaces. How do you envision using your backyard oasis and what will you be doing in this space? Creating the ultimate backyard destination takes some careful thought and planning. Make your backyard a versatile space by creating different zones with different purposes. Designing spaces for both à la fresco dining as well as relaxing is key.

Lounging

If you plan on lounging, there are lots of options you could add to your backyard oasis to make it the perfect spot for your summer days. A modular outdoor sectional provides heaps of seating for lots of people and a great choice for large spaces. The modular sectional pieces can be easily moved to create different configurations for your needs. Not enough room for a sectional? A conversation set the next best choice with separate armchairs, loveseats & coffee tables.

Looking to catch some sun? Invest in some chaise loungers that are ideal for sunbathing or lounging around a pool. Speaking of lounging around a pool, a trendy outdoor daybed is the best choice for creating a resort-style vibe in your backyard.

Other lounging options include a hammock or an outdoor patio swing that can be the perfect spot for an afternoon nap or reading a book on a hot summer’s day. And don’t forget about lounging at night! Try a fireplace set that includes a fire table surrounded by several comfy wicker swivel chairs.

Maybe your backyard oasis includes a spot for you to sit & dine with family and friends. Whether it’s for a summer lunch or late-night dinner, setting up an inviting dining location is key. Do you have a small space? Then a bistro set is a perfect option for sipping on a morning coffee or late night drink. And speaking of a late-night, enjoy a romantic dining atmosphere around a fire table.

Another great option is a built-in raised island with bar stools for guests to enjoy when relaxing in your backyard.

2-Set the Mood for your Backyard Oasis

Now that you know the purpose for each of your spaces, it’s time to set the mood for your backyard oasis. What can you add that will create that atmosphere you desire?

Think about adding an outdoor fireplace or firepit and some lighting such as garden landscaping lights, lanterns, or hanging strings of lights. This will provide ambient lighting and make the patio a welcoming extension of your home in the evening.

3- Accessorize

The final step to finishing off your ultimate backyard oasis is to accessorize the space with color & textures. Decide on a color scheme that works well with the style & exterior of your home. Then gather textures such as outdoor pillows, blankets & outdoor rugs that complement your patio furniture.

Add some pretty summer planters & pots as well as any outdoor décor such as lanterns. And don’t forget about your tables- grab a cute catchall tray and some patio tableware too.

Then, the only other item to remember is to make sure to provide some shade for your outdoor patio spaces. This is necessary on a super hot summer day. Try adding a large & colorful umbrella, awning, gazebo, or pergola.
