Hi Guys!
Looking to fix up your pool shed and make it a cute and inviting outdoor space? See how we completely revamped our pool shed on both the inside and out! I’m going to share my ideas and inspiration for this space!
Enjoy ~
Pool Shed- Exterior Completion
When we bought this house a few years ago- the pool shed was already built and just waiting to be finished. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any say in the design or space planning…so we just had to work with what we had.
Here’s a pic of the BEFORE pool shed–>
The first thing that needed to be done was to finish the exterior of the pool shed before the interior could even be considered. This way, the inside is completely sheltered and protected from the elements throughout the seasons!
This included adding James Hardie shingle siding, ripping off the cheap brown shingles and adding a black metal roof instead, and finally pulling it all together with black painted doors & windows.
Luckily for me, I have a handy hubby who has completed all these jobs before and some helpful hands in my family (who may or may not run this type of business *wink* *wink*!)
Within no time, the pool shed was beginning to take shape and look a bit more modern! This was going to set the tone for the rest of our backyard designs and decor.
Now…that looks much better doesn’t it!?!
The Interior Plan
Now that the pool shed exterior looks nice & modern, we could concentrate on the interior- my favorite part!
Our first job was to figure out what our needs were for this space…now and in the future. Life will look much different in a few years when we have 3 teenagers in our backyard!
The pool shed was already divided into 2 rooms:
- The Pool Equipment room– we are really not too bothered in finishing this space. It’s quite a large room and we can store our pool equipment, vacuum, as well as all of our gardening tools here!
- Pool House Room- this is the room that I want to elaborate on below…so keep reading.
Based on our backyard set-up and our future hopes for our backyard get-togethers, our pool house needs were:
- storage for pool toys/ inflatables
- a place for fresh towels
- a change room for guests
- an outdoor bathroom- no more nature pees in the backyard or wet hardwood floors inside!
- an outdoor fridge for beverages- instead of having to run inside or to the garage fridge each time)
Great! Next up- find some inspiration for creating a space that can do all of the above on Pinterest!
The Interior Design Inspiration
Here are the inspiration pics we found- this gives us a great starting point to putting together our plan & design!
In terms of style and design- I’d love to bring some of our Coastal Modern Farmhouse style out into our pool house! This includes adding colors such as whites, greys, and coastal blues of some sort. Then our exterior spaces will be complementary to our home! And this makes me happy 🙂
From there, having shiplap and functionality is a MUST! So…incorporating this into our design is key!
This means a possible built-in unit for storing towels and hanging up pool bags etc. Plus lots of baskets for pool toys and such. Oh…and don’t forget a separate powder room which will double up as the change room space too! A good barn door to separate might be needed!
Last but not least- last year we make a Pool Rules sign that will be the perfect decor addition to our pool house makeover project! To see how we did it, click the link–>Pool Sign
Perfect– I think we got it!
