How to Make DIY Paper Bag Snowflakes

We have been doing Christmas Advent Family Activities every day leading up to Christmas in December.  It was important to spend quality time together and bring some joy into our family life during this crazy pandemic type of year.

One of our advent activities was to make paper snowflakes and this was the perfect opportunity to test out this new craft.

Ready to learn how to make these simple yet super cute paper bag snowflakes?

How to Make DIY Paper Bag Snowflakes

You are going to be shocked by how simple these snowflakes are to make!  I love that they are 3D and the paper bag color goes with my neutral farmhouse Christmas Decor too!

OK, here we go–>

Materials Required:

  • 12 Paper Bags per Snowflake that you want to create
  • LOTS of glue and/or glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Jute Rope for Hanging the Snowflakes up
  • Pencil to sketch out your design
  • About 20 minutes of time per snowflake

Paper Bag Snowflake Supplies

Instructions:

  1. Count out 12 paper bags for each snowflake that you will be creating
  2. Stack your paper bags so that they are facing the same way
  3. Glue your 12 paper bags together
  4. Let dry for a few minutes
  5. Sketch on your snowflake design- don’t overthink this step.  Consider cutting the open ends in a V-shape and adding in some triangles along the side.
  6. Cut out your snowflake design- make sure you are using some pretty strong scissors to get through all 12 paper bags and leave crisp cut lines.
  7. Unfold your snowflake and begin to form the circular shape
  8. Glue the 2 ends together and VOILA- your snowflake is complete!
  9. Let dry for about 20 minutes before hanging them up on display!
  10. Cut some jute rope in different lengths and tie them around your paper bag snowflakes.
  11. Display your super cute craft proudly!

The Results

Here are our final paper bag snowflake results- Love them!!!

I did the craft first to make sure it worked and modeled the steps for our kiddos.  The best part is that they don’t have to have “perfect” cuts to look great!  We tried different designs for each one of our snowflakes and all 3 of our kiddos completed this craft (with a little help from mom!) 🙂

Also, can you guess which one is mine?
