Well, this has been quite the year.  Christmas Day 2020 is going to look very different in our home this year, how about you?  Let’s talk about how we can enjoy a stay at home Christmas during the global pandemic.Stay at Home Christmas 2020

This year we:

  • saw a shortage in toilet paper and hand sanitizer
  • were reminded of how to wash our hands properly and how often
  • bought masks or made homemade masks, and wore masks
  • did drive-by birthday parties and celebrations
  • enjoyed curbside pick-up for local restaurants rather than dine-in service
  • did some online learning & teaching
  • worked from home
  • canceled all travel plans
  • social distanced according to the 6ft rule
  • gave virtual hugs & kisses to grandparents
  • had all sports and extra-curricular activities canceled
  • met virtually in Zoom
  • watched daily briefings and analyzed the COVID numbers
  • dealt with anxiety & stress more than ever before!

But we survived and can look forward to new beginnings in 2021!  Right?

I sure do hope so!

Enjoying Your Quarantine Christmas Day 2020

Enjoying a Quarantine Christmas

Our focus this entire 2020 year has been on our kiddos.  We wanted to make sure that through all the chaos in the world, we weren’t passing this anxiety on to them.  It was important to focus on the positives in life and not what has been taken away from everyday lives.

From the beginning, we stressed healthy eating and an active lifestyle.  We made sure to include fun family activities to develop and strengthen our family bonds and bring us even closer together.  In fact, we have been completing Christmas Advent Activities since December 1st as daily family fun!

I’m not going to lie…it wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t perfect, but I think we managed pretty well for the most part!

But what about the Christmas Holidays?  We are in lockdown mode here again which means that we can ONLY have our own family indoors and up to 10 people outside with social distancing measures in place.  That means all extended family functions are canceled this Christmas!

So, what can we do to enjoy the holidays during quarantine?  Here are 15 ideas to enjoy your stay at home Christmas with the family in 2020:

  1. Play family games
  2. Cook a traditional Christmas dinner together
  3. Video call family & friends and host a Virtual Holiday Party
  4. Drop off gifts to neighbors & friends
  5. Decorate Christmas Cookies
  6. Watch some festive movies
  7. Listen to Christmas Music
  8. Wear family Christmas jammies and take some family pics too!
  9. Do some Just Dance Christmas or Tik Tok Holiday dances
  10. Challenge yourself to a puzzle afternoon
  11. Read some Christmas Books
  12. Indulge in a delicious Christmas brunch
  13. Go outdoors- for a walk, sledding, or even skating (weather permitted of course)
  14. Make a holiday playlist for the day

I hope you enjoy some of these great ideas for Christmas Day 2020!  Here are some other fun holiday ideas to keep your family busy over your break.

15 Ways to enjoy Christmas 2020

Why I’m Looking Forward to Christmas Day 2020

Can you believe that we have never been at home on Christmas Day since we’ve been married!?!  That’s 14 Christmases!  So…I am actually really looking forward to Christmas Day this year.

Our usual Christmas Traditions include an extended family get together for my family a week or so prior to Christmas.  Christmas Eve is at my parent’s house with all the immediate family.  Then we enjoy Christmas morning at our house and have a big brunch with my parents before we take off and drive 3 hours to my in-laws for Christmas dinner.  Finally, Boxing Day is filled with my hubby’s extended family in an open house style party at my in-laws’ house and we are back home a couple of days later in time for New Year’s Eve.

It’s such a go-go-go feeling typically…and that is EXACTLY why I’m looking forward to simply hanging around for the day!  I can’t wait to see my kids ACTUALLY get to play with their new toys & gifts on Christmas Day- they are pretty excited too!

We are planning on doing as many of those activities as we can on Christmas Day without feeling pressured and stressed or needing to be anywhere at all!

Again…looking at the positives!

5 Rules to Follow for Enjoying Christmas:

5 Rules to Follow this Christmas 2020

In order to have an amazing Christmas, here are 5 Rules to put in place this week at all Christmas events.  They are:

  1. Remember to have the Christmas Spirit. Take time to think about the TRUE meaning of Christmas. Teach your children the story of Christmas. Pause and reflect on what the Christmas Spirit really means in your household. And then LIVE IT!
  2. Enjoy Family & Friends. Take the time to catch-up with family & friends, play some games together, and enjoy each other’s company.  This year this might mean a social distancing visit or possibly even online in the virtual world.  But don’t let that stop you from celebrating together or putting you in a grumpy mood.
  3. Appreciate the thoughtfulness in gifts. So what if it wasn’t EXACTLY what you were wanting. Appreciate the thought that the person took when searching for a gift for you. My favorite gifts are the ones my kids make at school. They put their hearts and souls into making the best artwork or card for my husband and me!!!
  4. Put your CELL PHONE AWAY & BE PRESENT!!! I double dare you! In fact, try NOT even bringing your cell phone to Christmas get-togethers- unless for taking photos of course!
  5. Be joyful with the people around you, connect with others, and rejuvenate before going back to work.  This is needed for everyone this year especially.  Press pause for the day and just enjoy it!

I hope this gave you some ideas on how to make your Christmas Day 2020 extra special this year in quarantine!

Happy Holidays everyone!
