I love having a garage! At our home, we have a 2 1/2 car garage. It’s ideal for storing all of our sports gear, bikes, tools, and more! However, it’s sooo easy for it to get all out of control if not organized!
When we moved here, my husband took it upon himself to re-paint the garage and add new cedar garage doors to give it a revamped look. Being the design enthusiast that I am, I saw it as a fresh canvas and we started planning out our storage needs & possibilities for our garage space.
We have 3 very active kids who love many different sports all year long. These items take up lots of space!
I’m talking:
- bikes & helmets
- hockey net, sticks, equipment
- soccer net, balls, training gear, etc
- wagons & strollers
- balls of all kinds- basketballs, volleyballs, footballs, etc
- scooters
- baseball gear-helmets, bats, bags
- roller-blades
- and much much more!
4 Easy & Useful Garage Storage Ideas:
OK, you are about to see how we maintain an organized garage (most of the time) and keep our items organized and in place!

1-Shelf System
- One of the first DIY garage projects was to add a shelf above the garage doors to store seasonal items that would free up the garage floor space.
- It’s easy to access with only a ladder and when looking into the garage from the road, no one can even see the “stuff”!
- This shelf system is super strong and sturdy and can hold a lot of weight.
- We typically put our Christmas decor up there, wagons & strollers when not in use, and other gear in large rubber bins.
2-Wall Storage System

- We love our wall storage hanging system! They are excellent to organize gardening tools, equipment, or sports gear too!
- We found ours at a building our family business owned a few years ago and spray painted them white to freshen them up.
- Then, we just needed to purchase the ProSlat accessories to allow the handing & organization. There are so many options from different styles of hooks to baskets too!
- Easy Peasy! We now have spots for hockey sticks, balls of all sorts, gardening tools, and much much more!
3-Tool Bench

- Every man needs a tool bench in the garage. It’s the perfect location to house all the tools in ONE LOCATION!
- My husband took on the task of DIYing his own tool bench at our last house. (Prior to our blog up and running)
- He designed it to make sure it had the necessary storage capabilities for his tools and equipment at the time.
- My favorite part of the entire tool bench area is the pegboard that organizes his everyday tools like screwdrivers, hammers, and tape measures!
- This year at Christmas, I bought my husband the coolest Milwaukee packout toolbox! It’s on wheels, all snaps together, and comes with different packs for different tools. It’s amazing for keeping everything together!
- My husband likes to leave his tools all over the place and this toolbox system has actually made him responsible, keep it all together and organized too. Better for him…better for me!
4-Garage Cubbies
- OK, best for last! This is our most recent addition! We even have a tutorial on how to DIY your own set of garage cubbies!
- These cubbies provide a personal space for each member of our family to put their items.
- There is plenty of vertical height in the cubbies to store things like jackets, rollerblades, baseball bags, hang up hockey gear after games in the winter, and more…
- Also, it helps clean out our mudroom a bit too and keep items like rain boots/ winter boots in the garage! Perfect Solution!
