How to Decorate for Fall

Do you decorate for fall?  I love switching up the decor in my home for each season.  It gives a fresh look & vibe to each space.  My style is Coastal Modern Farmhouse, so no matter which season, I try to stay neutral in my decor so that it matches my existing design.  My goal is always to make the home decor “fit in” rather than stand out.

I typically start decorating near the end of September and make sure the house is ready to go for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend!  The weather has already started to change here, so it’s a natural feeling to make the space cozier and inviting for the fall season.

There are many ways to add in some seasonal decor too!  Here are some to consider for your home:

  • Fireplace Mantel
  • Pillows & Throws
  • Front Entryway
  • Tablescapes
  • Front Porch
  • Fall Stems
  • Cute Fall Wood Signs
  • and the use of Pumpkins too!

Today, I’m sharing with you my Fall Home Tour and how I added some fall farmhouse decor into my spaces.  This will hopefully give you some idea on how to decorate for Fall with neutral farmhouse decor.

Thanks for joining~Enjoy!

Decorating with Fall Farmhouse Decor

Every year, I try to add a few new trendy items to sprinkle around the home here and there.  This year, I added a fireplace banner, some new eucalyptus stems, and cute little white pumpkins.

Adding cozy fall pillows & throws is a great way to make your space feel inviting.  I love having this basket with extra pillows and blankets to snuggle with during the fall season!

My console is a pretty coastal color.  Lots of whites, greys, and neutrals play up this cabinet and make it look beautiful.  Placing some decor items on a metal tray is a really cute way to add some farmhouse flair.  And have some fun with your pumpkins too!

On the other side of our fireplace, we have another taller buffet cabinet.  We added our Simply Blessed Fall wood sign and some cute stems in a tall basket to provide some height.  I love the location of this sign as it provides a daily reminder of having gratitude in life.

Another idea is to use a large glass vase and create a fall arrangement as we have done below.  We went searching for some fun and curvy sticks from our ravine and added a little bit of color in the fall stems and pumpkins too!

Have you ever considered using a letterboard in your decor?  It’s so fun!  We like switching up our letterboard quote periodically based on what is happening in our family lives.

Also, I’m not much of a tablescape type of person, so adding a few white pumpkins on top of my beautiful blue mason jars did just enough for me!

Finally, I have some lanterns and basket bowls that I put neutral decor in such as the white pumpkins and natural woven decorative fillers as you see below.

Simple Fall Decor Tips:

  • Don’t add TOO much!
  • Buy things you love and will add value to your home
  • Shop neutral colors- whites, natural, soft
  • Focus on one area at a time- mantel, entryway, porch, etc
  • Play around with your placement of different decor items until you are happy with the end result.
  • Adding some fall foliage will bring an instant fall vibe to your space.
