Thankful Pumpkin Craft

Have you ever heard of the Thankful Pumpkin craft? Today on the blog, I’m sharing this simple yet valuable activity that you can do at home this fall season!

Enjoy 🙂

The Thankful Pumpkin Craft:

Ready for a super simple pumpkin craft to do with the entire family?  This year for our Canadian Thanksgiving, we took some time after dinner to gather as a family and complete a craft with all the kiddos.

Being Thankful

All that was needed for this craft were some Sharpie Markers and small pumpkins.  We chose to complete this task individually and gave each kiddo their own small pumpkin.  But another idea would be to get large pumpkins and have a family complete this activity together.  It really would be up to you, of course!

I chose white pumpkins for the craft as my intention was to proudly display my them up on our fireplace mantle…and we all know I love my neutral decor!

All set and ready?  Keep reading for the instructions…

Instructions for the Thankful Pumpkin Craft:

The activity is sooooo simple.

  1. Choose a pumpkin & a Sharpie Marker
  2. Brainstorm all the things in life you are grateful for & blessed to have
  3. Start writing all the brainstormed ideas on your pumpkin by either:
    • Starting at the top of the pumpkin and writing around and around and around until you get to the bottom of the pumpkin
    • OR  writing on each vertical section of the pumpkin all the way around
  4. That’s it 🙂

The Thankful Pumpkin Results:

When we were working on this activity at Thanksgiving, all the kiddos were writing their thoughts and sharing them around the table.  It was such a sweet moment hearing all the nice words coming from them and what they were thankful for in this crazy global pandemic kind of a year.

Here’s what our’s turned out like–>  We used both methods as you can see.

The Thankful Pumpkin Craft

In the end, this simple activity promotes the appreciation of all the positive things in our lives and allows for meaningful reflection & gratefulness.  We all ended the activity in uplifting spirits and lots of love & gratitude was shared the rest of the evening.

Lessons Learned:

Although this was such a small & simple craft to do, it was an important one.  Often we take things in life for granted, complain, or even find ourselves looking at the greener grass on the other side.  When we take a few moments to reflect on what we truly are thankful for in our blessed lives, we are filled with hope, positivity, and grace.

Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart

At the beginning of the pumpkin craft, our kiddos were just listing everything and anything that they thought of- toys, beds, food, family, etc.  But then, it got harder to fill up the pumpkin.  That’s when the magic happened and we started to think on a deeper level in order to come up with more meaningful reasons to be grateful.  In the end, we had so many positive conversations about how blessed we are!  It really was a fulfilling moment!

In the end, we took our pumpkin crafts home and displayed them on the fireplace mantle to serve as a gentle reminder throughout the fall season of our blessings.  And that is why this simple activity, held so much meaning to our family this Thanksgiving holiday!

I hope you feel simply blessed this season too 🙂
