Are you looking for some inspiration for how to set up the perfect family office workspace?  Today I’m sharing all my ideas and mood board for you to be inspired in your own space.

Perfect Family Office Workspace

Last week, it was announced that we were going into another 28-day lockdown and schools would remain closed in our area for another 5 weeks.  As I tried to digest the idea of teaching from home and having our kids learning from home for that length of time, I found myself staring at our future dining room that is currently being used as a makeshift schoolroom.

We were in the middle of an addition renovation when our first lockdown was announced.  However, we had to press pause of the reno as our sliding patio door was now going to be delayed for a couple of months.  This meant that flooring, trim, and built-in cabinets were not going to happen anytime soon.

Instead, the future dining room was transformed into a place that would store all our school belonging while we were doing remote learning/ teaching at home.

Furniture from around our house was brought into this room so that we had some working areas and storage for all of our school items.

It works for the time being, but this room has so much potential.  In fact, as I found myself staring at this space, I envisioned the perfect family office workspace and immediately, as I do, put together a mood board to bring the concept to life.

Maybe your family has had to learn or work from home too this past year.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a beautiful space to work in as a family?

Enjoy this mood board and be inspired for your own home!

The Perfect Family Office Workspace Concept

A family office workspace means a designated location for all the office paperwork, schoolwork, and craft supplies.  Usually, our kids work on the kitchen island, which is great and all, but it’s always a constant struggle to keep things tidy on a daily basis.  And as for storage?  We have a few different areas for all of this… STUFF!  It’s a bit overwhelming, to say the least.  Nonetheless, having a family office would be an ideal space to encompass everything in one location.

A family office can have lots of purposes too!

  • homework/ school work
  • family game night
  • puzzle area
  • craft location
  • office area/ paperwork/ bills
  • family calendar location
  • central tech location
  • and much much more!

Here is my concept for the perfect family office workspace.  In fact, it matches my coastal modern farmhouse style for the rest of my home too!

Family Office Mood Board

Have you considered having a family office workspace in your home?  Think about what your family needs are and design your space around them.  I’ve outlined 5 things to include in an ideal family office space below to help.

5 Things Needed in the Ideal Family Office:

5 Must Haves for the Perfect Family Office

1-Individual Workspaces

Individual workspaces are great for independent work and provide a personal area to keep certain items.  For example, in my mood board, there are 3 different individual cubby areas each with a bulletin board and storage unit.

As a result, each kiddo would have their own personalized location to work on their own and keep all of their belongings.

2-Closed Storage

Yes!  Closed storage is key because it tidies everything up in plain view sight and makes the space look clean & presentable.

I’m not sure about you, but I love when the “mess” and disorganization are hidden!  It drives me wild when I see paperwork randomly out or in piles.  Maybe it’s my Type A personality, but EVERYTHING needs a designed place in a room.

3-Family Workspace

Pop a large dining table in the middle of your room to provide the perfect spot for the family to congregate and work together.  For instance, enjoy a family game night, puzzles, and lots of crafts here too!

4-Display Bulletin Boards or Chalkboards

Does your fridge look like a magnet overload of your kids’ crafts, notes from school, calendar, and more?  What if you could take all that information and make it look pretty in a purposeful way.

Using Bulletin Boards, chalkboards, hanging folders and a family calendar corner are all great ways to achieve exactly that!

5-Design & Style

The goal when designing up a family office is to end up with a space that is inviting, comfortable, and bright.  In particular, try using different textures (rugs, pillows, fabrics), colors (soft & neutrals), and lighting too.  As well, add in some greenery to liven up the room too!

Now I’m itching to start a new room renovation and create this idea family office workspace.  I hope you were inspired today!
